Cech trolls BT Sport after spotting error in comparison between himself and De Gea

The Gunners keeper holds the record for the most Premier League clean sheets

PETR CECH has trolled BT Sport over a graphic comparing his clean sheet record to Manchester United’s David De Gea.

De Gea, 28, put on a goalkeeping masterclass by making an incredible 11 saves to preserve his fourth shutout of the season as United edged out Tottenham.

BT Sport tweeted out a graphic of the Premier League’s most clean sheets but fans on social media and Cech himself were quick to notice the stats were very wrong.

The graphic wrongly states that Cech has 161 clean sheets when in actuality, the Arsenal and former Chelsea star has a mammoth 202 Premier League shutouts.

Cech, 36, instantly wrote back laughing at the error, saying: “this is the easiest stat to find on the internet.”

The Gunners keeper famously holds the record for the most Premier League clean sheets overall as well as the most shutouts kept in a single season with 24.

Fans were also quick to notice the gaffe, with Twitter user Tim Weaver writing: “Why are you tweeting a picture that’s just not correct?”

User Mac Mohan posted: “No one caught it yet. Man has over 200 clean sheets. All time PL legend.”

Others argued that Cech, who joined Arsenal from bitter rivals Chelsea in 2015, would have kept even more clean sheets had he stayed at Stamford Bridge.

The veteran goalkeeper has found it hard to increase his record this season after losing his battle with Bernd Leno to be the Gunners’ No 1.

BT also came under fire for incorrectly placing Burnley’s Joe Hart above Everton legend Tim Howard when the American has claimed five more clean sheets than the Englishman’s 127.

Liverpool idol Pepe Reina can also stand to be a bit annoyed at his reduced figures after he earned 134 clean sheets during the 285 appearances he made in Red.

Cech’s closest competition are also omitted from the list, with De Gea first needing to match the records of David James and Mark Schwarzer, who stand at second and third in the all-time list.

The Arsenal star’s last clean sheet in the league came at home to Watford, in a 2-0 win at the Emirates back in September.
