AMIR 'CON'

Kell Brook blasts Amir Khan from ‘running off’ from all-British boxing showdown

Despite both working under Eddie Hearn's Matchroom banner, a fight seems further away than ever

KELL BROOK has branded Amir Khan a conman.

Former world champ Brook, from Sheffield, is fuming that he cannot land a fight against his bitter British rival after years of trying.

The Bolton boxer — known as King Khan — has revealed he is hoping to meet three-weight world champ Terence Crawford early next year instead.

And Yorkshireman Brook blasted: “Amir Khan is a con man, they should call him Amir Con.

“Everyone knows it’s him that is running off.

“He shook my hand and looked me dead in the eye and said we would fight next. What can I do? I’ve bent over backwards.

“This is his last big fight under Matchroom, and I thought it was nailed on.
“I’m doing everything I can for the fans, he has turned his back on them.”

Instead of a War of the Roses showdown with Lancastrian Khan, Brook will tomorrow be fighting Aussie Michael Zerafa in his home town of Sheffield.

The fight has been made a final eliminator for the WBA super- welterweight crown, held by American Jarrett Hurd.

Brook, 32, was world welterweight king for three years but was battered when he moved up to face middleweight monster Gennady Golovkin in 2016.

And last year he lost his IBF crown to Errol Spence Jr and suffered a broken eye socket.
The Sheffield star has made a successful comeback at super-welterweight and declared: “I want any elite fighter. I've got that buzz again. I want the top guys.”

Of tomorrow’s battle at the Sheffield Arena, Brook said: “I’m raring to go. I am not interested in what Zerafa's going to do.

“No man can deal with me on Saturday night. I’m very explosive and looking to put on a serious performance."

Zerafa has lost two of his 27 fights and, at 26, is six years younger than his opponent.

He declared: “Brook has done a lot of great things for the sport.

“But he is just a man with two arms, two legs, a head and he bleeds red. It’s going to be fireworks. We’ve seen flaws in Kell, and if there are too many holes in a ship, it sinks.”
