Samir Nasri warned he has to lose 11lb in weight to win £80k West Ham deal
Ex-City playmaker has been training with the East London side but has been told to shift some pounds if he wants to play in the New Year
SAMIR NASRI is hoping to tip the scales in his favour — with his dream of a long-term West Ham deal deal fading.
The former Manchester City midfielder is training with the Hammers for free in a bid to prove he can still cut it at the top.
Nasri, 31, has been told he needs to shift some timber to prove his fitness before talks about a contract will even start.
He has been allowed in by the Londoners following a personal plea from boss Manuel Pellegrini, who was his gaffer at City when they won the title in 2014.
But West Ham insiders say there is little chance Nasri can expect anything other than a short-term deal — especially with his wish for around £80,000-a-week in wages.
An insider said: "He has a long way to go to prove himself.
"It's hard to see him getting anything beyond the end of the season."
Meanwhile, Pell has admitted Reece Oxford should think about leaving the Hammers in January.
The defender made a sensational debut aged 16 in 2015 and signed a fouryear, £20,000-a-week deal as soon as he turned 18.
But the 19-year-old is stuck in the Under-23s under Pellegrini.
The Chilean said: "A player that is 19 or 20 must be ready to play in the first team.
"This season will be difficult for him to play.
"I spoke with him some weeks ago to force him to continue working as high a level as he can.
"He agreed with me. It is a difficult moment for him and he must work very hard."
