'completely blindsided'

Despite posing in a press conference in Japan, Mayweather says he was "completely blindsided by the arrangements that were being made without my consent nor approval".

He claims that he visited Tokyo and was asked to "participate in a 9 minute exhibition of 3 rounds with an opponent selected by the 'Rizen Fighting Federation'."

This was to be against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

He says he agreed to it because it was to be a "special bout" purely for the entertainment of "wealthy spectators" and not an official fight.

Mayweather also "apologises" to his fans and says he "should have put a stop to it immediately".

He continues: "For the sake of the several fans and attendees that flew in from all parts of the world to attend this past press conference, I was hesitant to create a huge disturbance by combating what was being said and for that I am truly sorry.

"I am a retired boxer that earns an unprecedented amount of money, globally, for appearances, speaking engagements and occasional small exhibitions."

Incredibly at the Tokyo presser, Mayweather posed for photos with his "upcoming opponent" and even spoke about how things would develop.

Speaking at the time, the 41-year-old said: "As far as the weight class and the rules, we’ll talk about that, we’ll get that situated within the next couple of weeks.

“It wasn't easy to make this happen but we told the people anything is possible, so now we're here and we wanna make sure that we give the people in Tokyo what they wanna see blood, sweat and tears.”
