Mauricio Pochettino has hit a wall at Tottenham and reached his limit, insists Gary Neville

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has gone as far as he can with Tottenham, according to Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

The Lilywhites boss admitted he had never felt so low as manager of the North London club ahead of their defeat to champions Manchester City tonight.

And former Manchester United defender Neville insists the Argentine has simply reached his limit as boss of the club.

He said: "He has always managed things well and pushed things away.

"They are not spending the money nowhere near the other top clubs.

"Pochettino is a fantastic manager but he has always wanted to go the top, top European clubs and it feels to me as though he has gone as far as he can with Tottenham."

Meanwhile, his colleague and former rival Jamie Carragher believed the reason for Pochettino's feelings should be blamed on chairman Daniel Levy.

Carragher said: "This team will break up in five years and people will say 'did they win anything?' and it’s looking like they aren’t going to.

"The players and managers won’t take the responsibility for that, it will fall on Daniel Levy. To be a top six club and have a net spend that they do is unacceptable."

Neville disagreed with him, saying: "I think it’s wrong to pin it on Levy. I think he is one of the best in the world at what he does. He knows the rules of the game."

Tottenham have had a string of set-backs with their new stadium - with the latest blow coming coming in news that it will not be ready until the turn of the year.

Tonight they played on a terrible Wembley pitch as they succumbed to defeat to Pep Guardiola's men.

They remain in fifth place in the Premier League after the result while City moved back top.
