Why Manchester United legend Patrice Evra and chief Ed Woodward keep sitting together at games
United are in the process of appointing their first-ever technical director - but Evra won't be filling the void
SOME Manchester United fans had a theory that club legend Patrice Evra was being lined up to become their first-ever director of football following a host of cosy meetings with vice chairman Ed Woodward.
However, those rumours have been quashed with the claiming the pair have just been "catching up."
A source close to Evra reportedly said: "It is just two friends catching up - nothing more than that."
Evra, 37, had been pictured alongside Woodward in the directors' box at United’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham, as well as the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge just a few weeks later.
The Frenchman, who resides in London, walked with the United squad past the mixed zone to the team bus after the Chelsea game, and has also been seen shaking hands with manager Jose Mourinho.
However, the left-back won’t be making a sensational return to the club in a non-playing capacity – despite the fact they are actively seeking to appoint a technical director for the first time in their history.

Woodward wanted Evra to stay at United in 2014, and even offered him a new two-year deal but his wife Sandra had her heart set on a move away from Manchester.
He subsequently joined Juventus where the veteran enjoyed a trophy-laden spell, including two Serie A titles, before short-lived stints at Marseille and West Ham.
Mourinho's men will be looking to make it two Premier League wins on the bounce when they visit Bournemouth on Saturday.
