Gibraltar FA unhappy with Armenia not playing their national anthem before first ever competitive win
Liechtenstein's national anthem was accidentally used before kick-off of the Uefa Nations League clash
GIBRALTAR FA were "very disappointed" that their national anthem was not played before tonight's historic victory over Armenia.
The visitors, who have since received an apology from the hosts, went on to win their first ever competitive game after 23 attempts.
But the Uefa Nations League clash did not start as planned for Jeff Wood's side.
The players were left red-faced when the anthem of Liechtenstein was mistakenly used before kick-off.
And the Gibraltar Football Assocation released a statement after the match to explain their disappointment.
It read: "The Gibraltar FA is very disappointed to note that, prior to tonight's UEFA Nations League match versus Armenia, the national anthem of Lichtenstein was played.
"The Armenian FA has apologised to the Head of Delegation representing the Gibraltar FA in Yerevan for this oversight.
"And an announcement has been made at the national stadium apologising for the error."
But Gibraltar had the last laugh on the night when they cruised to victory after Joseph Chipolina's second-half penalty.
Armenia had 72 per cent of possession, but the visitors held on to secure their first competitive win after 22 defeats.
The players will hear the Liechtenstein national anthem again on Tuesday when the two clubs clash at the Victoria Stadium.
Gibraltar lost the last meeting 2-0, but they will be brimming with confidence after their first taste of victory.
