Prima's teenage ace salutes 'unbelievable' triumph as runners-up spot in second race at Hockenheim confirms his dominant season
MICK SCHUMACHER has won the European Formula 3 title with a race to spare.
The son of seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, came second in race two of the Hockenheim finale to seal the championship.
The 19-year-old has notched eight wins over the season for the Prema Theodore Racing team and has made no secret of his hopes to follow his father into F1.
Schuey Junior said: "I am absolutely delighted. What this team has achieved over the last year is unbelievable."
Yet his triumph was put on hold after he missed out on any points in the opening race in Germany today.
A first-lap collision ended his hopes of early title celebrations.
But his modest target in race two was to not drop 15 points to title challenger Dan Ticktum.
Londoner Ticktum, 19, saw his Motopark team-mate Juri Vips win that second outing from pole
And Ticktum was only seventh, leaving Schumacher to celebrate moving another step nearer his long-term racing goal -
Formula One.
It also confirmed Schumacher's impressive improvement from his debut F3 season, 2017, when he finished 12th spot.
