Aston Villa keen on Rui Faria taking over as manager with John Terry as assistant to the ex-Manchester United coach
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry looked set to land the manager's job after Steve Bruce's axing - but had a change of heart after being approached by former side Monaco
ASTON VILLA want former Manchester United assistant Rui Faria as their new boss - with John Terry set to join him in a new-look management team.
The 43-year-old, who stepped down from his position at United in May to spend more time with his family, previously had a 17-year association with Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese emerged as the front runner after Thierry Henry turned down the job after being approached by his old club Monaco.
It saw plans for Terry to work under Henry ditched and the Chelsea legend then had a realistic shot at the top job on his own.
Now the club's owners, who have been advised by Faria's agent Jorge Mendes since they axed Steve Bruce, have their heart set on a Faria/Terry double act.
However, SunSport understands Faria is not keen on the role.
It is understood ex-Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy was also contacted by the club about the vacant role - but was not interviewed.
