Why is Conor McGregor suspended from UFC? And is Khabib Nurmagomedov also banned?
The Irishman will not be able to return to the Octagon straight away, putting potential rematch talks with his Russian conqueror on hold
CONOR MCGREGOR was beaten convincingly on Saturday at the UFC 229 event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Khabib Nurmagomedov put the Irishman into a rear naked choke hold, causing the 30-year-old to tap out.
Why is Conor McGregor suspended?
McGregor has been told by UFC that he cannot return to the cage straight away due to medical grounds.
This is a common occurrence in the sport, with fighters repeatedly kicked and punched during their bouts.
UFC has been at a standstill since the fight, following the aftermath where McGregor and Khabib’s teams were involved in a brawl.
The organisation have yet to announce their decision on any consequences from it.
How long will Conor McGregor be out for?
After being left battered and bruised on the Las Vegas canvas, the doctors have told McGregor that he cannot fight for a month.
That means the Irishman will be away from the Octagon until at least after November 6.
The medics have also warned him that he is not allowed any contact until October 28, sidelining him from sparring in training.
Is Khabib Nurmagomedov suspended as well?
While McGregor will be out for a month following his defeat, his Russian conqueror is able to return to the Octagon immediately.
Khabib appeared dominant throughout their fight and it has told in the medics’ assessment that he was not severely hurt.
