Khabib Nurmagomedov’s three chilling words to Conor McGregor as he destroyed the Notorious at UFC 229

KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV rained down punches on Conor McGregor in the second round of their fight – then delivered three chilling words.

The main event of UFC 229 went on for another two rounds before McGregor tapped out after being locked in a choke submission.

But it was in the second round where Nurmagomedov taunted his opponent as he seized control in the octagon.

After flooring McGregor with a huge right-hand, Nurmagomedov went in for the kill, raining down heavy hands as the Irishman tried to cover.

Then with their faces just millimetres apart, the Russian warrior said to McGregor: “Let’s talk now.”

It was in reference to Nurmagomedov keeping his cool throughout the build-up to the lightweight world title fight, while McGregor, as usual, took centre stage.

But at the end of UFC 229 in Las Vegas at the weekend, there was only one man left standing after the brutal clash.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was quick to point out that things were said between the two throughout the fight, but it was these three chilling ones in particular that might stick with McGregor for a while.

And it has emerged the Russian, 30, was in a dominant position after taking the first two rounds – the second 10-8 – before McGregor won the third.

The Irish fighter could not handle his unbeaten rival, who retained his UFC lightweight title.

The match will be most remembered for the ugly scenes afterwards as Khabib launched himself at the Irishman’s team after jumping out of the Octagon.

McGregor meanwhile was also involved in a scrap as his opponent’s entourage confronted him – with footage appearing to show the Irishman throw the first.

UFC president Dana White confirmed: “Khabib jumped over the cage to go after one of Conor’s guys who was talking trash about him.

“I don’t know what to say. I’m just disgusted. [Conor is] OK. He’s upset about the fight but not about that.

“The guys who jumped in will never fight here again.

“I’ve been working hard to promote this sport, this is not what a mixed martial arts event is normally like.”
