'i was scoring'

Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri blasts ex-Stoke team-mate Charlie Adam saying ‘I was helping, he was missing penalties and getting sent off’

Scottish star previously slated the Swiss midfielder for not performing in the big games last season

The Liverpool new boy slated the Scottish midfielder for getting sent off and missing penalties during last season's relegation battle.

Adam claimed in July that Shaqiri went missing against big teams before his £13m summer switch to the Reds.

In response, Shaqiri told : "I think it's just frustration maybe or jealousy because I had a good move.

"I was surprise that he spoke like this about me but that is sometimes the character of a player.

"I know what he said was totally wrong because at that time I played there - especially when times were hard - I was there and I was scoring a lot of goals.

"I was one of the only ones who helped the team with goals in difficult games and he was that guy who took the red card in league games (against Everton) and missed a penalty (against Brighton)."

Adam sparked by fury when he was asked if Shaqiri was one of the players that didn't perform during the relegation battle.

In response, he told : "Was he one of them? Oh, definitely.

"When the chips are down you look at your big players, you want your big players to bring magic in one moment of the season, and at times we felt like the so-called big players never turned up for us and never performed.

"But, listen, he's gone now. We move on and we look to the future."

Shaqiri also took the chance to discuss his relationship with Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool boss was spotted giving him an earful after Wednesday's defeat to Chelsea.

The 26-year-old said: "Klopp was not intense or shouting something.

"It was just a tactical thing, like something off the free-kick we should do better.

"In the end, Jordan took the free-kick and it was maybe not the best solution we did there."
