ILKAY GUNDOGAN somehow escaped unscathed after a horror tackle from Joe Ralls on Saturday.

The Cardiff City star was only given a yellow card by Michael Oliver for the challenge during Manchester City's 5-0 win in Wales.

In the dying stages of the first half, Ralls floored the German midfielder with a high and late challenge.

The Bluebirds ace completely missed the ball and instead collided with Gundogan's knee.

Pep Guardiola was furious on the touchline and fans have claimed that the 24-year-old should have been sent off and banned.

One said: "If he had planted his foot earlier, he'd be dead."

Another added: "Disgusting. If we don't ban players for doing this serious injuries will happen."

One more concluded: "And no retrospective action because the ref was staring straight at it, had a long think and issued a yellow. #Yellow #Bottler."

The incident happened just moments after Gundogan scored a stunner to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

He was eventually hauled off and replaced by Phil Foden in the 69th minute as City continued to run riot.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in the first half before Bernardo Silva doubled the tally three minutes later.

And former Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez found the net twice after Gundogan's strike to make it 5-0 to last year's champions.
