The 36-year-old suffered the first loss of his professional career after Canelo earned a controversial majority decision points victory
GENNADY GOLOVKIN has declared he isn’t finished and wants to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a third time after he lost his world titles on Saturday night.
The Kazakh star lost to the Mexican via a majority points decision in what could be called the fight of the year at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Both extremely closely matched fighters gave the crowed a thrilling fight that one judge scored a draw, 114-114. while the two others scored it 115-113.
After the fight Golovkin, 36, was seemingly disappointed with the decision, leaving the ring before giving an interview.
But at the post-fight press conference, the formerly undefeated middleweight champion said he wants the trilogy fight with Canelo.
He said: “We can say a lot of things tonight, but first of all I want to congratulate Canelo, because he left this building as the champion.
“I feel like I’m a champion, but he also is a champion. It was a fight of two champions tonight.”
Golovkin felt he was in control of the fight, keeping Canelo at the end of his punches winning the battle of the jabs.
He added: "I felt very comfortable. I think we controlled the fight, all the jabs. Even though he was not running this time, it doesn’t mean he was controlling the fight. We were controlling the fight.”
Golovkin said he will continue to try and prove that he is the best.
