Who won Canelo vs GGG 2? Result from Alvarez vs Golovkin middleweight fight in Las Vegas
Almost a year ago to the day, these two middleweight titans faced off once again
GENNADY 'GGG' GOLOVKIN put his WBA, WBC and IBO titles on the line again as he faced Mexico's Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
The Kazakhstani boxer was looking to record a 21st defence of his middleweight belts, 12 months after the pair endured a controversial draw at the T-Mobile Arena.
Who won Canelo vs GGG 2?
There were questions whether Golovkin would be able to deal with an aggressive Canelo Alvarez.
Will the 36-year-old GGG be able to cope with a Mexican in his prime? Or will his record be tarnished and ruin an almost record-breaking defence streak?
Alvarez learned from the fight 12 months ago and came out more aggressive, to the delight of the Mexican fans in Las Vegas.
And it paid off as Canelo beat Golovkin on a majority decision to become the new WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight world champion.
Alvarez was the defensive counter-attacker in 2017, dodging and weaving around the punches of GGG.
This time around, Canelo went for it, forcing the world champion to fight on the back foot.
Even a gash to the eye in the early part of the fight could not stop him, as he continued to attack.
While one judge scored it a draw, the other two were in favour of Canelo.
GGG thought he had won it, storming off out of the ring and down the tunnel before he could make a post-fight interview.
But it certainly lived up to its billing as one of the bouts of the year. Round three in 2019?
Alvarez is ready, saying: "If the people want another fight then we’ll do it again. We’ll do it, no doubt."
