England player ratings: Danny Rose shines as Jack Butland and Ruben Loftus-Cheek fail to deliver against Switzerland

GARETH SOUTHGATE made nine changes to his squad for tonight’s 1-0 win over Switzerland.

Danny Rose was the standout star for the Three Lions, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek failed to deliver and Jack Butland struggled at the King Power Stadium.

Jack Butland – 5

A bag of nerves every time the ball came near him, he gave his defence kittens when he sliced the ball right across the face of his goal

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

Decent dead ball delivery from the teenaged wing-back but didn’t do enough to suggest he should start ahead of Trippier.

Danny Rose – 8

Real energy from the Spurs wing-back to drive England forward, he looks to be back to his best after an indifferent few months.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 5

Took a long time to get involved in the game and struggled to make the kind of impact he would have wanted.

Kyle Walker – 7

Might not like playing as a central  defender but he is growing into the role and needed to be on his toes to cover up for Tarkowski.

James Tarkowski – 5

Robbed on the edge of his own area and it all went downhill from there. Not a great night for the Burnley centre-half.

Harry Maguire – 6

The Leicester hero received the loudest cheer of the night but he had his work cut out dealing with the lively Shaqiri.

Eric Dier – 7

The stand-in skipper almost headed England into an early lead and put in some hefty challenges to prevent England from being overrun in midfield.

Danny Welbeck – 5

Has scored more international goals than any other current England player but never looked like adding to his tally against a slow Swiss defence.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Another clinical finish from the young striker who took advantage of abysmal Swiss defending to end England’s losing run.

Fabian Delph – 6

Worked as hard as anyone in his first game of the season and had a good understanding going on down the left with Rose.
