BOLTON WANDERERS have secured the services of Joe Williams from Everton on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old midfielder will join the Championship side to secure more game time, but the Toffees have insisted on a recall option.

Williams came through the ranks at Everton, having been part of their development programme since he was seven.

But spent last season on loan with Championship side Barnsley, where he made 38 appearances in all competitions, but couldn't save them from relegation.

The midfielder received offers from plenty of clubs and has been weighing up offers from other Championship sides, but decided that the high-flying Wanderers would be most suitable.

Bolton have got their season off to a flying start, having won three and drawn one.

Manager Phil Parkinson said: "We're pleased to have signed Joe.

"He's an excellent young player and is a great addition to the squad."

Everton are also aware of the young midfielder's promising talent and their recall option demonstrates this.

He has had a taste of international experience, having been capped at England U20 level.

Williams was ruled out due to injury in April and was forced to see out the remainder of the season on the bench.

But after what he described as a 'tough few weeks back' in pre-season he seems raring to go.

Hull, Birmingham and Bristol City were other sides who entered the race for his signature.

But Parkison had the edge after watching the midfielder in action for Everton's U23s earlier this week- his side host Sheffield United on Saturday.
