Speaking to French news outlet , Wenger spoke of his love of football and how he enjoys being able to put theory into practice in the beautiful game.

He said: "What I like about the job of a manager, is that we have theories, but on Saturdays we have to show that they work and the result is immediate."

Wenger may not have been running the show at a club these past few months, but he hasn't been able to step away from football entirely.

He spent the summer flying between Paris and Russia to cover the World Cup for BeIN Sport, as he watched his beloved France lift the trophy.

The Frechman said: "I did the entire World Cup as a pundit.

"France was the only team that went on a crescendo, they showed that they were continuously progressing.

"I think we won because of an incredible spirit, but also a considerable superiority based on our physical presence.

"I said at the beginning that France were the favourites, because they had the best balance between technical quality and physical power."

He may have been full of praise for France, but praise for teams outside of Europe wasn't free-flowing,

Wenger said: "For the competition, unfortunately, the World Cup was like a European Championship with a guest, Brazil.

"The rest of South America no longer seems to have what it takes to meet their ambitions."

Wenger's four-week gig for the World Cup allowed him to keep his hand in the game that he has known for so long.

But he does seems to have enjoyed his break away from management more than he thought he would, after he admitted that his life played second fiddle to his job.

He said: "Being passionate is selfish work. When you are passionate, you steal your time from those whom you love and to whom you could have given much more.

"When you have been as busy as I have been, you always fear a little emptiness.

"But I quickly organised myself in this new stage of my life, I do a lot of sport and I eat with my friends.
