Arsenal new-boy Matteo Guendouzi claims Gunners can win the Premier League title despite Man City loss
The Gunners were back training today after their loss to Manchester City, but the early set-back doesn't concern the young midfielder who believes Arsenal's new players and staff have what it takes to win the league
ARSENAL are back putting in the hard graft after defeat to Manchester City - and newboy Matteo Guendouzi reckons they can win the Premier League.
The Gunners' season-opener was not the start they wanted under new boss Unai Emery, as they slumped to a 2-0 loss against the defending champions.
But Guendouzi, 19, is confident that the title is in their sights thanks to the new faces in north London.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, he said: “I believe we can win it this season because of the players and staff we have.
“We truly believe and will do everything we can to win as many games as we can and to have a fantastic season. I truly believe we can do it."
His maiden season in the English top flight may be tougher than his last - which he spent in the second-tier of French football.
But he wants to make a name for himself at the club that have had French legends such as Thierry Henry
pass through its doors, and is confident that his first season will result in silverware.
The midfielder said: “Man City are a top team but there are a lot of top teams in this division because the Premier League is the best league in Europe.
“There are plenty of others but we can be very positive and achieve good things this season. We can win titles because of the environment we have here and the quality of the player."
Guendouzi attracted interest from a lot of clubs across Europe, but it was Arsenal's French forward Jeremie Aliadiere who twisted his arm.
He said: “As soon as I heard from Arsenal, the decision was very simple and I’m very happy to be here.
“I did speak to Jeremie about Arsenal and he said it’s a place where I can progress and learn a great deal from the staff here.
“It’s the club of my heart. There have been a lot of French players here and Thierry Henry is a symbol in France after his long career here.
"I used to watch Arsenal games with my father and it has a special place in my heart.”
The 19-year-old was brought on board by Arsenal's new boss this summer and has every confidence in his boss and new team.
But there is also an Arsenal legend who was equally as impressed with the young midfielder's performance.
Ian Wright hailed Guendouzi's attitude and effervescence.
The ex-Arsenal star recognised that it would have been easy for Guendouzi to hide, but he didn't and was demanding the ball - still battling until the end.
Wright claimed that Guendouzi was the biggest positive from the game against City.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another star that is excited for this season, but he is pushing Emery to try a different approach.
