KENYAN hurdler Nicholas Bett has died aged just 28 in a horror car crash.

The African athlete won the 2015 World Championship 400m hurdles title in Beijing in 2015.

He was killed while travelling in Lessos, Nandi, in his home country, a day after returning from the Continental Championships in Nigeria.

Bett is a two-time African Championship medallist whose twin brother is also a 400m hurdler.

His family and local police confirmed the tragic death this morning.

It is understood the car he was driving veered off the road and smashed into a ditch

He is thought to have tragically died at the scene.

, Bett lost control of his motor after hitting a bump in the road.

His body is being prepared to be transferred to a local mortuary before arrangements are made for his funeral.

He made history in China after becoming the first Kenyan to win a gold medal in a short distance race on the world stage.
