First refusal

Manchester United have Adnan Januzaj decision to make as Leicester make shock move for World Cup star

The Belgium international's World Cup performance caught Leicester's eye, but United have first refusal on the star after insisting on a buy-back clause when they sold him to Real Sociedad

ADNAN JANUZAJ’s World Cup performances have seen Leicester linked with a shock swoop that could trigger Manchester United into action.

The Red Devils have first refusal on the young star, with a buy-back clause in place, and could potentially use him as a pawn in the move to secure Harry Maguire.

Januzaj inflicted misery on England when he found the back of the net against them during their World Cup group stage fixture

Januzaj, 23, moved to Real Sociedad last summer from United in an £8m deal and has spent periods on loan at both Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.

According to Belgian journalist, his performances during the World Cup – including a fine goal against England – have Leicester eyeing him up as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian finally left the King Powder stadium for Manchester City this summer and has lined the Foxes’ pockets with £60m with which they can find a replacement.

Januzaj played a similar role for his Spanish team as Mahrez did for Leicester so would seem a good fit thanks to his ability to cut in from the wing and use both feet.

Will Januzaj link up with Rashford at United, or will he be his opponent at Leicester?

Leicester though could be thwarted by Manchester United should they choose to bring him back to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils could even use the threat of doing to to try and push through a deal for Foxes defender Maguire who is top of Jose Mourinho’s transfer wishlist.

Januzaj impressed during his side’s campaign at the World Cup in Russia, helping them to secure a bronze medal.

He returned to the fold for his national side, following a two-year hiatus, after impressing Roberto Martinez with his form for Real Sociedad.
