Ronaldo can’t hide his confusion as he laughs his way through a traditional Russian welcome ceremony

The reigning European champions couldn't control their laughter during the ceremony, but it was down to the Portuguese captain and coaching staff to sample local delicacies in the traditional manner.

CRISTIANO RONALDO is already making waves in Russia and he hasn't even stepped foot on a pitch.

The Portuguese captain received a warm welcome, in traditional Russian style, but he struggled to contain his laughter and hide his confusion around the whole welcoming ceremony.

The welcome is usually reserved for politicians and dignitaries, but the red carpet was rolled out for the Portuguese squad as they landed in Zhukovsky in the outskirts of the Russian capital.

As the squad lined up, suited and booted for the occasion, Ronaldo took centre stage as he prepared for the customary welcome.

Russian women were dressed in traditional attire and offered the squad bread that was to be dipped in salt.

He may be able to trick the world with his fancy footwork, but there was no disguising his  bemusement.

The Portuguese captain broke off the bread, as his teammates broke into laughter.
