Floyd Mayweather insists Conor McGregor only made Forbes rich list top ten because of him and will NEVER be highest-paid athlete

The 41-year-old extended his perfect record to 50-0 after knocking out the Irishman last August at the T-Mobile Arena

FLOYD MAYWEATHER reckons Conor McGregor only made number four on the Forbes rich list for athletes because of him.

While the former five-weight world champion also insisted the Irishman would never top the list as their war of words continues.

McGregor was knocked out in the tenth round against the 41-year-old last August at the T-Mobile Arena, but managed to break the top five of the Forbes list.

But Mayweather has revealed that he is the sole reason for The Notorious' fourth-placed ranking.

Speaking to , he said: "Number four, Conor is at number four because of me. Before we even fought, I was number one.

"But, we both done big things in 2017. So it was great for both of us."

And when asked if the two-weight UFC champ could ever stand alone at the top rankings, Mayweather rubbished such claims.

The three-time Forbes No 1 added: "Absolutely not. Conor McGregor can never get to number one without Floyd Mayweather."

The 1996 Olympic bronze medallist made £212,504,550  in 2017 - with £149,126,000 coming from his bout with the 29-year-old.

While McGregor made £73,817,370 - with £52,194,100 coming from his blockbuster contest with the American.
