Amir Khan vs Kell Brook set for December if Sheffield star handles Jarrett Hurd and Bolton ace thrills Birmingham

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is preparing to let the bitter rivals settle their grudge

AMIR KHAN is set for a winter war with Kell Brook – if the Sheffield star can handle American Jarrett Hurd in a final tune-up in July.

Brook is now campaigning at the super-welterweight limit of 154lbs while Khan has insisted than any fight between them must be in the welterweight division of 147lbs.

Amir Khan says he wants to fight Kell Brook at some stage

The Bolton bruiser, 31, enjoyed a 39-second return to the UK in April, destroying Canadian loudmouth Phil Lo Greco, after five years fighting in America or laid low with injury.

And Brook – who has taken regular verbal jabs at Khan’s chaotic and very public private life – made short work of Sergey Rabchenko in March.

A return to winning ways for both Brit bangers, as well as a newly shared promoter in Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, has set-up the long-awaited showdown perfectly.

And Hearn has revealed the timeline for the domestic dust-up to Boxing Scene, with dates for both men. For Brook, 32, he said: “It’s looking like July 28 possibly at the O2 Arena.

“With Kell, he really likes the Jarrett Hurd fight. It’s a very tough fight, it’s a great fight, but I would like to see him have one more because he got a round and a half against Rabchenko.

“He feels great at 154lbs. Jarrett Hurd is a huge super welterweight, and Kell is just a normal super welterweight.

“It’s really taking another massive challenge and Jarrett Hurd, whilst he’s a brilliant fighter,  he hasn’t yet got the profile in the States for that to be a huge payday and obviously the focus for Kell is Amir Khan.

“That’s the one we want, everybody wants for December.”

Khan sold out the Echo Arena in Liverpool for his one-round demolition job and wants to take the roadshow to Birmingham next.

Hearn said: “We’ve wanted to go there for a while. We haven’t been there for over a year. The venue hasn’t been available.

“I think Amir would go down well in Birmingham.

“Obviously, we sold out the Echo last time. If we can put on a good fight, with a really strong Midlands undercard, I think it would do really well there.

Amir needs rounds. If he’s going to dive in to a Brook fight, or any big fight, he needs some rounds.

“So we need someone who’s going to excite the fans and the public, and also give Amir Khan a solid test. Same for Brook as well.”
