London Marathon 2019 road closures and travel advice for today’s big race

THE streets of London are set to become flooded with brightly-coloured outfits, cheering crowds and athletes sharing the pavements with running enthusiasts.

But this wonderful day does create travel chaos with road closures and lack of transport routes.

Here’s everything you need to know about road closures and travel affected by the 2019 London Marathon.

What road closures are in place for the London Marathon?

There will be 26 road closures across London during the course of the marathon.

The course starts in Greenwich Park and continues throughout London.

As always, it will finish on The Mall.

Closures started as early as 6am in some places and will be in place until as early 12pm but in some places as late as 7pm.

Between the closure hours, any busses that would have intervened in the route will be put on diversion – for up to date bus alerts check .

How will Tubes, trains and DLR be affected?

London Underground, London Overground and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) all have extra services on Sunday. Event planners say that taking the train will be the best method of transport during the races.

Tube services will be running normally but it will be busier than usual – the Jubilee, Circle, DLR and District lines in particular will be congested as they are in close proximity to the Marathon route.

How will buses be affected by the race?

Buses travelling on roads affected by the Marathon will either be diverted or will not run the full length of their route until after the race is over. To find out more, visit .

Can I cycle?

Some Santander Cycle docking stations that are dotted along the route will be suspended from Saturday evening until Sunday evening.
