AUSTRALIA's Gold Coast welcomes athletes from around the world for what looks set to be a fantastic 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The sun is set to be shining in Queensland and there are 11 days of sporting action to look forward.

Here's the schedule for the first day of competition, which overlaps from Wednesday night to Thursday in the UK.

All times listed are British Summer Time.

When is the opening ceremony and how can I watch it?

THE opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday April, 4. 

It will be held at the Carrara Stadium and the show will start at 9pm GMT.

As the BBC have the rights to the whole Games, the opening ceremony will be on BBC1, with coverage starting at 10.30am.
