SCOTT WESTGARTH has heroically saved SEVEN lives through organ donations after tragically passing away in February.

Former light-heavyweight Westgarth died at just 31 years old in February after succumbing to boxing-related injuries following his points win over Dec Spelman.

Speaking to the , his grieving mother said: “I did not realise but he had put his name down three times on the organ donor list.

“When I went to see him in hospital, I was giving him kisses and I put my hand on his heart and it was so strong.

“I just thought ‘whoever is getting his heart is going to be so lucky’.

But Westgarth, who died on Sunday night in hospital, then appeared to be in pain – wincing and holding his head

“They told me seven people had been saved. He helped people right to the end of his life, that was how he was. He would help anybody.”

She added: “I want people to remember not just the boxer, but the man that he was.”

The death of Westgarth shocked the boxing world, with Kell Brook dedicating his fight against Sergey Rabchenko to the memory of the fan favourite.

While fellow boxers Frank Bruno, Ricky Hatton, Martin Murray Murray and Audley Harrison all paid tribute to the Northumberland star.

A GoFundMe page was subsequently set up in Westgarth’s honour, which has raised almost £9,000 for his family.

Scott amassed a record of seven wins, two losses and draw during his career, and earned himself a shot at the English title following his bout against Spelman.
