West Brom stars accused of stealing a taxi after boozy night may face community service in Spain
Ex-skipper Jonny Evans, 30, and Gareth Barry, 36, could end up sweeping streets or working in soup kitchens
THE West Brom stars accused of nabbing a taxi after boozing during a training camp may be facing community service in Spain, say sources.
Ex-skipper Jonny Evans, 30, Gareth Barry, 36, Jake Livermore, 28, and Boaz Myhill, 35, could end up sweeping streets or working in soup kitchens.
They remain under investigation for allegedly taking the car from a McDonald’s drive-thru in Barcelona at 5.30am on Thursday as the driver got them grub, and leaving it outside their hotel.
The four stars could get community service orders lasting 31 to 90 days or a fine, say sources.
Lawyers say the pampered players could be ordered to do the work if they fail to convince a judge they had left the vehicle somewhere the owner could easily find it.
A source said: “Police have not accused them of taking the taxi with the intention of keeping it. Community service would be a worst-case scenario.”
The Premier League aces could also be fined.
McDonald’s duty manager Saray Ortega Gracia called cops when the driver told her his car had been taken as he ordered burgers for the players.
The 29-year-old said: “The driver placed a big order - a Big Mac meal each and four chicken burgers and the bill was EUROS 31.60 (POUNDS 27.95).
“The driver got out to collect the order and one of the men got behind the wheel.
“They thought it was funny but I felt sorry for him."
Evans, stripped of the West Brom captaincy as punishment ahead of his side’s disastrous FA Cup exit on Saturday, has apologised along with his three teammates.
The bottom-of-the-table side has confirmed it has launched its own internal investigation into the incident.
