Winter Olympics 2018: British medal hopeful Katie Ormerod out of Games with fractured heel
Snowboarder fractured her wrist on Wednesday but was still hopeful of competing in Sunday's slopestyle
BRITISH medal hopeful Katie Ormerod has been ruled out of the Winter Olympics after fracturing her foot in training on Thursday.
It comes just a day after the snowboarder suffered a minor wrist fracture after slipping off a rail.
The 20-year-old remained hopeful of competing in Sunday's slopestyle event but her latest setback has ended her chances of competing in Korea.
Taking to Instagram, Ormerod uploaded a picture of her in hospital with a huge cast around her right leg.
Alongside the image, she revealed that she was braced for emergency surgery in the morning.
Ormerod also shared an image of her x-ray which showed the extent of the break.
Ormerod, from Brighouse, was due to compete in two events in snowboard slopestyle and snowboard big air.
Dan Hunt, British Ski and Snowboard Performance Director said: "We are all devastated for Katie who was in strong form coming into the Olympics. She is a talented athlete and wonderful role model.

Ormerod last year became the first Briton to win a World Cup big air title. She was also third in slopestyle at the 2016 X Games in Aspen.
