Brit Winter Olympics team to skip opening ceremony — because it is too cold
Team GB chiefs issued the warning as -23C temperatures in South Korea sparked fears for their health
BRIT stars are to give tomorrow’s Winter Olympics curtain-raiser a miss — because it is too cold.
Team GB chiefs have told those due to compete in the next few days to stay away from the opening ceremony.
The order was issued as -23C temperatures in South Korea sparked fears for their health.
Athletes including Katie Ormerod, 20 — Yorkshire’s snowboard gold medal hopeful — have been left freezing.
The ceremony in Pyeongchang is in an open-air stadium and will last three hours.
All spectators will be handed emergency kits of heat packs, blankets and beanie hats.
But many have already handed back tickets.
The weather has been so cold that skis have warped and cashpoints have iced up.
There have also been security fears over scanners packing in.
Troops have had to be drafted in after 1,200 security guards fell ill with the winter vomiting bug.
