Manchester City do not have enough money to win the quadruple, claims Pep Guardiola
The Spanish boss has forked out £400m during his spell in charge at the Etihad... but insists it is not enough
PEP GUARDIOLA says Manchester City are not rich enough to win the quadruple.
City, who are 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League, are still on course to compete for four trophies this term.
Guardiola's side booked their spot in the final of the Carabao Cup with a win over Bristol City this week, Basle in the last 16 of the Champions League next month, and play Cardiff in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
But, despite spending over £400m since his arrival in 2016, Guardiola insists he hasn't got the funds to build a squad capable of winning all four in one season.
Pep, 47, said: "If you are in four competitions, fighting to be there, sometimes you have to be lucky in terms of injuries.
"Or you have 22 top players to compete in all competitions.
"Today, to have 22 players you need - people maybe don't believe me - the money we don't have.
"To compete at a high level in four competitions you need 22 top players and today the 22 top players are so expensive. You cannot survive."
BRU TIRED Kevin De Bruyne fears Man City quadruple chase will burn him out for World Cup
Guardiola is hoping to secure the services of £57m Athletic Bilbao ace Aymeric Laporte.
But he claimed that he will never be satisfied with his squad, regardless of how much he spends.
He added: "Of course, even City - there are salaries we cannot pay and there are budgets and transfers we cannot pay.
"We do not know in the future what is going to happen but we didn't pay more than 100 million, 90 million or 80 million for one player.
"We cannot pay that right now."
City lost out on the signing of Alexis Sanchez to rivals Manchester United last week because they refused to match the Red Devils' mega-money offer.
