Salford star Jack Littlejohn may look for another job to fill his time

Aussie half-back used to double up playing in the NRL with working on a building site

JACK LITTLEJOHN admits he may look for another job to fill his time after working on a building site while playing in Australia.

But tradesmen in the UK can rest easy, the Salford new boy will not be joining them as it is too cold!

Scrum-half Littlejohn used to jump on a site Down Under whenever he could while playing in the NRL to keep him grounded.

Now he is in Super League, he may look to do something similar in this country.

The 26-year-old said: “I’ll look at doing something. But I definitely won’t be jumping on a building site over here. I look when I drive to training and think, ‘How are they doing that? Their hands must be frozen.’

“It’ll be good to get out and do something, though. I don’t like sitting at home, I get too bored.

“Every day off I had at Wests, I’d go to work. I started my qualifications Down Under a year-and-a-half ago, so that’s what I want to do after playing.

“For my first year of playing full-time, I didn’t work and after that I got a little bit ahead of myself and didn’t play to my best.

“But the year after I made sure I worked on my days off, just to remind myself of how good I had it.

“I’d go to training, hang out with my mates and keep fit – that was my job whereas others have to go and dig holes. So building kept me
grounded.”

Littlejohn has settled into an apartment in Manchester after heading over from Australia and is determined to show he can cut it in Super League.

No pressure but his partner has put her job as a flight attendant in her homeland on hold to come over with him.

He added: “I’d better play well.

“I didn’t know how much I love Australia until I came here and started missing it. I didn’t have many offers, though, so it wasn’t that hard a choice.

“Now I want to get that starting role at scrum-half and then show what I’ve got in the Super League.”
