Amir Khan ends Eddie Hearn feud to sign multi-fight deal with Matchroom supremo
Brit revealed he decided to bury the hatchet in Australia during I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!
AMIR KHAN decided to team up with old foe Eddie Hearn while starring in I’m a Celeb.
The Bolton boxer has signed a multi-fight deal with the Matchroom supremo — despite once famously claiming he DISLIKED HIM.
That sets up the mouthwatering prospect of a domestic blockbuster against fierce rival Kell Brook, who is also in Hearn’s stable.
Khan, 31, had claimed last year he would only fight Brook if he quit Matchroom because, “I just don’t like Eddie Hearn”.
But Khan revealed he decided to bury the hatchet in Australia during I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!
He said: “I was in the jungle, spending time on my own, to have a think about life and where I wanted to be.
“I wanted people to see the real me. Then I wanted to get back boxing — make sure I come back with a bang.
“The only way to do that is with someone established. I know for a fact he can get me the big fights.
SHINING THROUGH Amir Khan proved he is a ‘genuinely nice youngster’ in his stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, says proud father ahead of boxer’s ring return
“I had a lot of options but wanted my career to be in England — that’s why I picked Eddie.
“He’s the biggest name in UK boxing and has a huge platform which is Sky.
“Eddie does a great job with his fighters, gets them to world title fights, gets them the biggest fights.
“I want to start fighting in the UK — it’s been five years.”
Ex-welterweight world champ Khan says he ultimately realised it was “best to be with Eddie rather than against him”.
Defending his previous comments, he said: “Everything said before was to sell tickets and to promote fights.
“Let’s leave the ego aside now and work together.”
Hearn added: “It’s time to put everything that’s happened behind us. This is a press conference I thought we would never see.”
Khan will have his first fight under the Matchroom banner on April 21 at the Liverpool Echo Arena, with an opponent announced next week.
