Neymar, Lewis Hamilton, Hector Bellerin and Tyson Fury push fashion to brink… here’s when it goes wrong

It is not unusual for highly paid, world-class athletes to take pride in their appearance, but sometimes a love of 'style' can go too far

WORLD-class sports superstars push everything to the limit - including their sometimes suspect taste in fashion.

It takes a special kind of attention to detail, intensity and mental edge to reach the summit of any discipline.

And the world of style appears to be no different for a number of household names.

For every effortlessly cool icon like Pep Guardiola, there is a garish chinchilla coat-wearing Tyson Fury ready to hog the limelight.

Here, we take a look at the more questionable decisions perhaps made while these heroes were getting dressed in the dark...

Neymar and Lewis Hamilton

Double denim? Check. Sunglasses that Bono from U2 would likely wear? Check. Orange trousers that are clearly too long in the leg? Check.

Neymar, the world's most expensive footballer, and four-time Formula One world champion Hamilton got together for this memorable 'crime' against fashion.

Take nothing away from the two mates, they usually look the epitome of cutting edge cool.

But these outfits look like they were pinched from the wardrobe of a budget 1980s film set.

Hector Bellerin

The Arsenal right-back is rapid on the pitch and equally quick at sussing out the latest trends.

However, this Hugh Hefner-inspired look - which included women's pyjamas - may be one he opts not to pull off again.

Prior to that he wore a £2,655 outfit that included some tartan trousers that would not have looked out of place on Doddie Weir.

Tyson Fury

They say money can't buy you happiness.

It can't guarantee understated class, either.

Former heavyweight king Fury wore this controversial £9,000 chinchilla fur coat last month to battle the "f***ing freezing" weather.

Fury - who says he will return to the ring in April this year - stands 6ft 8in.

But even managed to look small in the massive fashion fail.

Roberto Firmino

Ever feel tied down by all the clothing options out there?

Liverpool star Firmino certainly does - which is probably why he decided to wear this peculiar metal neck accessory.

It can be gold, it can be red - it simply does not matter to the vibrant Brazilian.

The Hex tie - a creation of American style guru Enrique Alejandro Peral - was retailing for £515 before being dropped in price to just £36 on the brand's official website.

And while they may not be too popular with the general public, they are with sports stars: MMA star Max Holloway has also been seen in one.

Alex Song

Donovan once sang 'they call me mellow yellow'.

And one can only presume that was what was going through the head of former Arsenal, Barcelona and West Ham star Song when he went for this eye-popping ensemble.

It's one thing to limit a fashion disaster just to yourself.

But Song clearly likes to spread the love.

And he did so by dressing his boys Nolan and Kaylian in matching outfits.

Paul Pogba

Is it a coat? Is it a scarf? Is it an outlandish type of new waistcoat?

Chances are we will never truly understand what the Manchester United midfielder was wearing in this photo.

With age comes many things: knowledge, patience, experience... and a strong inclination not to care what anybody else thinks about you.
