Guillermo Rigondeaux stripped of WBA world title and loses his ranking with governing body
Boxer was told if he lost his last fight against Vasyl Lomachenko he would be stripped of the title - and now it has happened
THINGS have gone from bad to worse for boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux after he was stripped of his WBA world title.
Less than one month after he was battered into submission by Vasyl Lomachenko, the Cuban has now had something else ripped from him in addition to his unbeaten record.
Rigondeaux stepped up to super-featherweight to fight Lomachenko, but was schooled throughout, and ended up quitting on his stool at the end of the sixth round.
He cited a "hand injury" in the aftermath, but this was seen by many as an excuses after his flop of a performance.
The WBA always said they would strip Rigondeaux of his super bantamweight belt if he lost the fight.
If he had have won, which in itself seems stupid now, the Cuban would have been given a choice as to which title he wanted to keep.
What was a hugely anticipated fight with many finding it hard to split the pair turned into one-way traffic as Lomachenko proved he is the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet.
Rigondeaux told his corner to pull him out at the end of the sixth round, citing an "injury to the top of his hand".

But the crowd weren't buying it and the Cuban was roundly booed when giving his post fight interviews in the ring.
Lomachenko was easily winning boxing's first pro match between two-time Olympic gold medalists when Rigondeaux's trainers called for the match to be stopped.
