Northants bricklayer James Richardson hopes his hot form at the Ally Pally can tikka box for a military charity
CURRY lover James Richardson hopes his hot form can tikka box for war heroes.
The Northants bricklayer is back in the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship six years after his famous win there over Raymond van Barneveld.
Richardson, who walks out to the 1998 football chant Vindaloo by Fat Les, celebrated his opening-round win over Kim Huybrechts with an Indian in Rushden.
And yesterday he prepared for today’s last-32 match against Alan Norris with a turkey curry at home.
Richardson, 43, said: “I love a good curry.
“My wife has told me to cut down on them, so I am just having one every two weeks now.
“Before that, I was having them more regularly. They help fire me up.”
Richardson, whose son Joshua is the 2016 BDO world youth champion, plans to donate a proportion of his winnings to a military charity.
He has so far earned £18,500 for reaching the second round but would get a minimum of £27,000 for victory today.
Around his neck is a picture of Royal Marine corporal Marc Birch, who died in December 2008 aged 26 as a result of a suicide bomber in Helmand province.

Richardson said: “I am a patron of the Darts for Heroes charity.
“For the past four or five years I have known Geraldine, the mum of Marc. I know he touched the lives of many people around the Northampton area.
“I will dedicate all my wins to the families and all the people in the armed forces. Marc is giving me inspiration. I will put some money into the charity.”
