AMERICAN pool player Oscar Dominguez has been "severely warned" by officials over comments made in the Mosconi Cup tonight.
The 32-year-old was heard by TV microphones saying to team-mate Dennis Hatch that he has "the touch of a rapist".
The incident happened in their game against Europe's Ralf Souquet and Jayson Shaw and was broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The Mosconi Cup's official Twitter feed issued a statement on the incident that read: "Tournament officials have spoken to Oscar Dominguez regarding his comments in the last match and he has been severely warned about his future conduct."
But some Twitter users called for Dominguez to be suspended for his comments.
One social media user said: "Dominguez has been warned for saying ‘you have a touch of a rapist’ are you kidding me! Should be banned for life."
Another tweet read: "Simply unacceptable a USA player said to his teammate 'You have the touch of a rapist' live so we all heard him. Remove this player from any further pool team in this annual comp."
Another Twitter user wrote: "'You have the touch of a rapist' says the American pool player. Disgusting. Should be banned for life. Horrendous."
The annual Mosconi Cup pits an American team against a European side in a similar format to the Ryder Cup in golf.
This year's tournament is taking place at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas.
The event is run by Barry Hearn's Matchroom Sports brand, who also promote darts and boxing.
