Luke Gale reveals England winger Jermaine McGillvary SINGS during games
Winger belts out a tune to keep him focussed, according to the Castleford scrum-half
LUKE Gale hopes Jermaine McGillvary hits the right notes as England go for World cup glory.
Then again, the wing ace has hit just about every other possible after SINGING during matches.
The Huddersfield man has been one of the biggest successes of the tournament, scoring seven tries and establishing himself among the world’s best.
But scrum-half Gale let McGillvary’s tuneful routine before he takes the ball slip.
He said: “He is just a bit strange if I am honest.
“He sings to himself just before he is going to take a carry. He will sing a song and I can hear him singing to himself.
“He is just a strange guy but it works for him. I don't know what he is singing. In the Australia game, he was taking a carry off a scrum and after the game I said, ‘Were you singing?’ and he said, ‘Yes I like to sing to keep me focussed.’
“That is a bit what he is like. He is different so to speak.
“But he’s been outstanding. I have played against him for a lot of years and you obviously know how good he is and how strong he is.
“But I think these last few games he has taken himself to the next level, he has been outstanding and I couldn't heap any more praise on him.”
Speaking of individuals, they do not come any more individual than England boss Wayne Bennett, who himself admitted he was ‘embarrassed’ at how he used to act as a boss.
Players love him, fans just do not get him and his public persona is certainly not warm and cuddly.
But Castleford ace Gale, 29, believes he has done a huge part in England’s route to tomorrow’s final – and would like him to stay.
He added about the man many in the squad have christened ‘The Bentos’: “I love him, I think he is a great bloke and the lads love him and his company.
“He does the camp thing really well. We've been seven or eight weeks now and he has been in a lot of camps be it State of Origin or with New Zealand.
“He just gets it. He does it really well. He gets you relaxed and nice and happy. I couldn't speak highly enough of him.
“If you are not doing your job he will tell you but he is open and honest and that's why we respect him so much. He doesn't pull any punches, he will tell you.
“He is same week to week. He’s been around a lot of teams and knows what works and what doesn't and keeps the same routine and keeps us nice and relaxed.
“That is, ‘Enjoy yourself.’ There’s always good mood in camp with a lot of laughing and jokes. What Wayne says is up to him, we just get on with our jobs.
“Let’s get tomorrow out of the way and hopefully we can a positive result and let’s see what happens.”
