Slaven Bilic is on borrowed time at West Ham, according to ex-Arsenal ace Martin Keown
Commenting on Bilic's post-match interview, following their loss to Brighton, Keown said the Croatian sounded like he was on death row.
WEST HAM boss Slaven Bilic is clinging onto his job for dear life and the battering at home to newly promoted Brighton has left his future hanging in the balance.
Ex-Arsenal ace Martin Keown waded into the debate and said that the Croatian boss, who has been in East London for two years, is on ‘borrowed time’.
The Hammers have slumped to 17th in the table and have won just four times during their rocky start to the season.
Their hammering at home to Brighton on Friday evening has shed light over Bilic‘s future and led to Keown discussing his future on BT Sport, he said: “His post-match interview sounded like he was on death row.”
During the aforementioned interview, Bilic bore the brunt of the criticism and was disheartened by his side’s performance, he did reference his future at the club and said he wasn’t sure if he would have time to make amends.
Keown added further insult to injury and said: “He didn’t give a good enough explanation as to why he should be kept in the job. He’s on borrowed time, something has to change.”
The Hammers may not want to follow Leicester’s lead and be a club that are left without a manager after they sacked Craig Shakespeare.
The Foxes have let assistant Michael Appleton take over on a temporary basis, but if West Ham push Bilic there is concern as to who could take the reins.
Bilic’s current contract expires at the end of the season, so he may be given time to redeem himself- the club’s co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have a tendency to stand by their managers.
West Ham now face two crucial London-based away games against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup and Crystal Palace in the Premiership.
