Boxing looks to be a natural fit for Costa, whose combative style on the pitch has often landed him in hot water.

The striker was shown working up a sweat sparring with personal trainer Jesus Garcia Pola before sharing a laugh up against the ropes.

Torres wrote on his Instagram post: “The best trainer in NineFitness, Diego Costa works out in our club with Jesus Garcia Pola.”

After being exiled by Antonio Conte and declaring he will never play for the Blues again, Costa returned to his native Brazil to await the fate of his future.

A return to Atletico Madrid was finally agreed but after sitting out the pre-season and joining training two months into the new campaign, Costa has been playing catch up to ensure he is match-ready by January when Atleti’s transfer ban is lifted.

The 29-year-old has been on a vigorous training schedule since his return to Madrid and has been put through his paces during one-on-one sessions with fitness coach Oscar ‘The Professor’ Ortega.
