Arsene Wenger slams Watford penalty for Richarlison foul as ‘scandalous’ after Arsenal lose
Watford ace Troy Deeney converted from the spot to make it level, before Tom Cleverley scored the winner in stoppage time
ARSENE WENGER blasted Watford's penalty as scandalous after the Gunners fell to a controversial defeat at Vicarage Road.
Troy Deeney equalised from the spot against Arsenal after Richarlison went to the ground following a challenge from Hector Bellerin.
And furious Wenger voiced his disapproval of the decision during a post-match interview.
The French boss said: "We were unlucky. That penalty was a bit ridiculous.
"I think it's a scandalous decision.
"We got ourselves into many situations when we could have scored, but we did not take the chances.
"In the first half we played extremely well."
Arsenal looked set to secure the three points at Vicarage Road after Per Mertesacker opened the scoring with a powerful header.
However, Watford were given a lifeline when they were awarded a controversial penalty in the 71st minute.
The Brazilian appeared to go to ground incredibly easily following the challenge from Bellerin, and Wenger is outraged with the decision.
After the Watford victory, Troy Deeney added. "He [Bellerin] his long hair in the way, he can't see. It's a penalty."
