Gareth Southgate gave his blessing to some of his squad skipping the coach journey from London after beating Slovakia and edging closer to the World Cup.

It meant the players taking the chopper could spend more time with their loved ones before preparing for their next Premier League game.

Taking a helicopter from London to Manchester takes just over an hour, compared to road travel that can take four hours.

The Three Lions defeated Slovakia 2-1 at Wembley, with Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford both making it onto the scoresheet.

Southgate's squad will face Slovenia on Thursday, before travelling away to face Lithuania three days later.

England were fortunate to draw 0-0 with Slovenia during the last qualifier, with Joe Hart saving the day for the visitors.

England only need one win from two games to book their spot in the 2018 World Cup.

The Three Lions are currently two points clear at the top of Group F.

Southgate will allow players to bring their Wags and families to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, despite ex-England boss Fabio Capello famously banning this.

However, the former Middlesbrough star has banned the England stars from drinking and partying in Russia next year.
