Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo failed to convince singer Madonna to get her son to enrol at Sporting’s academy over Benfica
Real Madrid superstar got in contact with the singer after learning that David Banda was set to join Benfica's academy
CRISTIANO RONALDO usually has a massive influence when it comes to football.
But not even the Real Madrid ace could convince Madonna to get her son to sign for Sporting Lisbon.
The Portugal star reportedly rang the world famous singer after hearing her adopted son, David Banda, could join Benfica’s academy.
Ronaldo kick-started his career at their fierce rivals Sporting before going on to win four Ballon d’Ors.
But the 11-year-old won’t follow in the footsteps of the Portugal hero because he opted for the the Eagles this summer.
Madonna, 59, packed her bags this summer and moved to Lisbon this summer in the hope that David can make it as a professional footballer.
She took to social media earlier this year to show off her son’s new colours before uploaded a picture of her son, captioned: “My Champion!”
Madonna adopted Malawi-born David in 2006.
The Like A Virgin star also adopted Mercy James in 2009, and twins Esther and Stella Mwale in March this year.
She has two biological children – Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, 20, and Rocco Ritchie, 16.
Benfica are currently champions of Portugal – a feat which made player Eliseu hilariously celebrate by driving a scooter around the dressing room.
