Nicola Adams’ fight on Canelo Alvarez vs GGG undercard cancelled due to Alexandra Vlajk’s issue ‘with eye test’
The British Olympic gold medallist was due to face rival in junior bantamweight bout in Las Vegas
NICOLA ADAMS' fight against Alexandra Vlajk has been cancelled due to the Hungarian having an "issue" with her pre-fight eye test.
British Olympic hero Adams was due to meet Vlajk in a junior bantamweight bout on the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin undercard in Las Vegas.
The news will come as a devastating blow to Adams, who was set to make her Las Vegas debut.
She arrived at the fight capital of the world after just seven rounds as a professional.
But she spoke of her "devastation" at not being able to fight.
Double Olympic champ Adams tweeted: "I'm devastate that I'm not boxing tonight, due to a problem with my opponent, thank you everyone for your support and kind messages."
Vlajk, 37, has won 11 of her 17 fights and stopped two opponents since joining the paid ranks in 2013.
But she would have faced stiff competition against Adams on what was set to be her firs time boxing in the States.
And earlier in the week she spoke of her joy at the prospect of such a massive bout.
She said: "Frank Warren called to say there was an on opportunity to box on the Canelo – GGG bill and I was like ‘hell yeah, definitely’.
"I can’t even put into words just how happy I am to be involved in an event as big as this.
"It’s the first time I’ve ever been to Vegas and I’m just trying to take it all in and use the energy to go out and perform and maybe build up a new fan-base."
