Chelsea at centre of FA investigation after anti-Semitic chanting involving Alvaro Morata

THE Football Association will be launching an investigation after a number of Chelsea supporters chanted an anti-semitic song on Saturday.

Alvaro Morata has condemned the chant that praised him, but insulted Tottenham fans during the 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.

The FA will be in contact with the Blues on Monday in a bid to identify the individuals involved with the disrespectful chant.

Chelsea were quick to react and voice their disapproval of the disrespectful chant - which has been noted by FA officials.

The Spanish striker scored Chelsea’s opening goal yesterday in a 2-1 win at Leicester but the victory was marred when some travelling fans repeatedly sang: “Morata, whoa, Morata, whoa. He came from Real Madrid, he hates the f**cking Y**s.”

Chelsea's post-match statement read: "The club and the players appreciate the fans' passionate support away from home. But the language in that song is not acceptable at all.

"We've spoken to Alvaro after the game. He does not want to be connected with that song in any way and both the club and the player request the supporters stop singing that song with immediate effect."

The Premier League champions will be closely monitored when they host Qarabag FK on Tuesday in the Champions League. Any repeat of yesterday’s lyrics would land the club in hot water and lead to sanctions from Uefa chiefs.

Blues boss Antonio Conte was unaware of the offensive lyrics but Chelsea’s Head of Communications Steve Atkins appealed to fans to heed their pleas.

He said: “I don’t think Antonio was aware of the song. The club and the players appreciate the fans’ passionate support away from home.

“But the language in that song is not acceptable at all.

“We’ve spoken to Alvaro after the game and he does not want to be connected with that song in any way and both the club and the player request the supporters stop singing that song with immediate effect.”
