Diego Simeone deals Premier League admirers blow by extending Atletico Madrid deal until 2020
Argentina boss was attracting interest from Arsenal as a potential replacement for Arsene Wenger but he has committed his future to the La Liga side
ATLETICO MADRID boss Diego Simeone has extended his contract by a further two years.
The fiery Argentine’s new lucrative deal will keep him at the club until the summer of 2020 – ruling out any hope of him joining the Premier League anytime soon.
Simeone had been earmarked to replace Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger once the Frenchman decides to call time at the Emirates.
The 47-year-old was also heavily linked with Inter Milan where he played for two years in 1997.
But the news will come as a huge boost for Atletico supporters as Simeone plots further silverware at the club.
In his first full campaign at Atletico, Simeone’s side would win the Copa del Rey before being crowned league champions just a year later.
He surpassed expectations in the Champions League on two occasions by reaching the final but were pipped to European glory by rivals Real Madrid.
Simeone will have to work wonders yet again if his side are to win silverware this season as they undergo a transfer ban.
It has prevented them from landing wantaway Chelsea striker Diego Costa who is pining for a move back to his former club.
The Brazilian-born Spaniard remains AWOL after trying to push through a move to Atletico and then publicly praising Simeone.
Costa, 28, could remain in exile until January when Atletico are able to register players once again.
