Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain closing in on £40million switch from Arsenal to Liverpool as he undergoes medical
LIVERPOOL have pulled off a stunning £40 million hijack by agreeing a deal with Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp swooped at the last minute after Chelsea thought they had their man in the bag.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is with England preparing for Friday’s World Cup qualifier in Malta and underwent a medical at St George’s Park on Wednesday evening.
Chelsea agreed terms with Arsenal on Monday but the Premier League champions always feared the Three Lions star preferred a switch to Anfield instead.
Klopp has told Oxlade-Chamberlain that he wants to place him at the heart of his team in central midfield.
But Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was hoping to use the versatile star as a wing-back.
Liverpool now have 24 hours to thrash out personal terms with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who rejected a deal worth around £180,000 per week to stay at Arsenal and is now in the last year of his contract.
There were fears the Reds could miss out on The Ox because of the bad blood between them and Arsenal.
But Colossal Sports management – who represent Ox, Raheem Sterling and Reece Oxford – announced they have agreed a deal with the Reds on Twitter, before deleting the post.
Liverpool are also hoping to complete a late swoop for Virgil van Dijk to finish the transfer window on a high, having reached a deal to sign Naby Keita in 2018.
