Leicester City make £27m swoop for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend
The Foxes have stepped up their pursuit to sign the 26-year-old, which could lead to Riyad Mahrez's departure from King Power
LEICESTER CITY have reportedly made a £27m bid for Crystal Palace ace Andros Townsend.
The England international has been linked with the Foxes for a while, but now a firm bid has been made.
As Leicester close in on the deal, the door has opened for Riyard Mahrez's departure from Craig Shakespeare's side - according to Daily Mirror.
Premier League rivals Stoke have also voiced their interest in Townsend, but are yet to put in an official bid.
Townsend spent six years at Tottenham, tallying three goals in 50 outings. He was loaned out to nine clubs during this spell.
He then moved to Newcastle in 2016 for a fee of £12million, where he netted four times in 14 games.
The 26-year-old then moved to Palace for £13million. Last term he scored 3 goals in 36 games.
Following the speculation regarding Mahrez's future at the King Power Stadium, Shakespeare could be introducing the England international as his first reserve.
The Leicester chief has given up trying to tie down Mahrez and instead is preparing for his departure by bolstering his attacking options.
An agreement between the two clubs is expected to be completed within the next 48 hours.
This move could spark a domino effect and may also boost Manchester City's hopes of signing Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez.
