Tottenham boss challenges Colombian youngster in training as he welcomes the club's record signing
MAURICIO Pochettino has revealed how he welcomed new signing Davinson Sanchez by challenging him during a training session.
The Colombian international joined Tottenham in a club record deal which could reportedly reach £34.4million.
As Sanchez waited for his work permit, which has now been approved, Poch kept him entertained by showing him who was boss in a training session.
The Argentine gaffer revealed: “I challenged him.
“Yesterday. We were playing a box and he was inside and the ball was in the air and me, bam, and he fall, and me with the ball.”
The Spurs chief is already known to be a father-like figure to his younger players, as Victor Wanyama and Dele Alli have confirmed in the past.
Pochettino admits to enjoying players with a personality and it looks like Sanchez is showing his fast after joining the club just a few days ago.
Poch said: “What caught our attention with him was when he arrived at Ajax from the beginning he showed his quality, started to show his character and personality.
“I think he was the best player on Ajax in his first season. That showed that he is a player with big character and personality, and with a lot of potential.
“We are happy how we work. Always, it’s to try to find the profile of the person and for the future and I think it was a massive possibility when we knew about the possibility to sign him.
“It’s a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That is why we made the effort to try to sign him.”
The 21-year-old has now had his work permit approved and been given international clearance to play ahead of Tottenham’s game against Burnley at Wembley tomorrow.
