Mayweather is the hot favourite to preserve his undefeated boxing record against a man who has never had a professional bout before.
But in recent weeks McGregor's odds have come in, and he is now 3/1 with many outlets to spring what would be one of the biggest ever shocks in the sport.
Mayweather is heavy favourite at 1/4.
A panel consisting of head of SunSport Shaun Custis, UFC expert Wally Downes, Britain's number one boxing correspondent Colin Hart and chief sports writer Dave Kidd aired their views on the big one in a special podcast.
And Hart was particularly clear in how he thought the fight would go.
He said: "Mayweather is never out of the gym, he is a fitness freak.

"So I don't think for one minute he is going to be anything other than 100 per cent fit.
"Obviously as he is 40, his reflexes won't be like they were at 25 or 30, but he is fit and far too clever for McGregor.
"I can't see this being a great fight as I can't see McGregor hitting Mayweather with anything worthwhile.
"What I think is going to happen is that he [McGregor] is going to wear himself out trying to hit Mayweather.
"I think Mayweather will play around with him for six, seven or eight rounds, give the vast audience and people who have paid all the money their money's worth and then take him out."
👊McGregor v Mayweather Tips: 12/1 beast👊
FLOYD MAYWEATHER is no KO machine.
His last knockout was Victor Ortiz in 2011 but that was shrouded in controversy. Before that, his previous victim had been Ricky Hatton in 2007.
So, even though we expect this fight to be one-sided, it will not end straight away.
Mayweather will toy with the inexperienced McGregor and we love Sun Bets' 12/1 that Money wins in the fifth.
And even SunSport's UFC man Wally Downes gave McGregor no chance in the fight.
He added: "I think he will toy with him, there's a phenomenal talent on the undercard called Gervonta Davis, and he has said Mayweather will toy with him and finish him.
"For Mayweather, that would be the ideal thing to do, to humiliate him in a boxing ring and stop him.
"Everyone draws to the fact that Mayweather doesn't stop anyone, or at least that he hasn't done for a number of years."
The two global sporting superstars clash this Saturday (August 26) at the 20,000 capacity T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the fight.
